Masters swimmers excel in Aberdeen

Medals for swimmers at Scottish National Open Masters Championships

Last month five of the East Lothian Masters swimmers travelled to Aberdeen to compete in the Scottish National Open Masters Championships.

Swimming 23 events between them, the swimmers came home with a fantastic 14 medals!!

Jason Burnett won medals in all of his 7 events swimming personal best times in nearly all of his swims. He was extremely pleased that he was beating times he set when he was 17 years old! Jason also won the age group trophy in his category for his efforts.

Ian McKay won a gold in his only swim at the meet, winning the gold medal by an incredible 4 seconds, a huge amount over a short distance event.

Brad Robertson competed in 6 events over the two days, winning a fantastic bronze medal in the 400m Freestyle. Brad narrowly missed medals in the other Freestyle events but posted great times in all his swims.

Jo Kelly had an exceptional meet, claiming 5 medals from 5 swims. Jo was very happy with her swims and determined to break the 29s barrier in her 50m FC next time!!!

Lynsey Orbegozo was competing in her first masters meet, having only joined the master team a few months before. Lynsey competed brilliantly, narrowly missing a medal in the 400m FC but thoroughly enjoying the experience!

The master swimmers are now looking for their next meet, with the East District Masters event being held at Prestonpans in November.
