Preston Lodge win National Futsal Championships
Preston Lodge High School S1/S2 and S5/S6 teams travelled to the Scottish Futsal 5-a-side Championships held in Perth on Tuesday 18 March.
This was the first time both teams would experience Futsal as a competition and both teams really enjoyed the experience. The S1/S2 team played two matches in the group stage. With ten players in the squad it was difficult to rotate the sqaud throughout the match. However all players got a lot of game time. The team unfortunately got beat in both the group matches however won their third match to finish fifth in the tournament, A good achievement in their first every tournament.
The S5/S6 team played their first match and drew 2-2 against St Mungo's Academy. They then went into their second match and beat Grove Academy. The then needed to wait on the result of St Mungo's Academy v Grove Academy. If St Mungo's won by more than two clear goals they would have progressed to the final. Grove beat St Mungo's which progessed Preston Lodge to the final.
In the final they played Grange Academy, who are a school of excellence for football. The finall was played at a high tempo. Preston Lodge took the lead through Adam Forsyth. with five minutes to go Grange pulled it back to 1-1. The game was 1-1 with 90 second left to play. However two quick goals seen Preston Lodge win the final 3-1 to become national champions.
Both team performed excellent on the day and hopefully they can continue this level of performance during the Futsal in school and for the school football teams.
