East Lothian Swim Team finish 16th from 44 clubs at National Age Group Championships
East Lothian Swim Team travelled to Glasgow two weeks ago to compete in the Scottish National Age Group Championships. At these National events the swimmers from Haddington, Musselburgh and Tranent clubs come together to enter as East Lothian Swim Team (ELST).
Over 5 days they had 29 swimmers take part in 104 individual events and 11 relays.
This event is long course (50m pool) and is one of the main focuses in the swimming calender. Over the 5 days, the swimmers managed 27 Top 10 finishes with 11 medals, 16 ELST records and 1 S12 World Record!
Scottish National Age Groups is a huge event and for so many swimmers to acheive qualifying times is fantastic for the county. Some of the competitors were competing at this event for the first time and handled the pressure exceptionally well. A large number of personal best times were recorded, showing the swimmers were on form and ready to race.
Stephen Clegg had a fantastic swim in the 200m Backstroke, finishing in a personal best time of 2.18.08 which was a 5 second personal best and breaking the World Record in the S12 category.
Sean Craigmile took 3 titles in the 11-13 year old age group, dropping a considerable amount from his personal bests. An exceptional meet by the 13 year old, showing dominance in the distance freestyle events.
Finlay Hart also medalled twice, swimming personal best times in every event he competed in. Finlay took silver in the 200m Fly and bronze in the 800m Freestyle, showing determination in both races.
Ruth Thomson won bronze in the 50m Breaststroke, rising to the occasion in the final and bettering her pb set in the morning heats. Excellent racing by the 15 year old to almost broke the 35 second barrier.
